Abstract: Most linguists support the claim that the Tifinagh script, a writing system for Tamazight languages, derive from the Arabic and Latin scripts. Our analysis, contrarily, supports the hypothesis that Tifinagh might actually be derived directly from the Phoenician and Greek scripts. In this work, we adopt a topological data analysis approach, relying primarily on persistent homology and the topological information it provides to compare letters from each of these writing systems.
