Numerical Simulation of an Electro-viscoelastic Contact Problem

Abstract: We consider a dynamic contact problem in which the material's behavior is modelled with an electro-viscoelastic constitutive law, the frictionless contact is modelled with the normal compliance and the electric conditions are supposed almost perfect. In the present work we focus on numerical simulations of the contact model introduced by Denche et al. [1]. To this end, we introduce a fully discrete scheme, based on the finite element method to approximate the spatial variable and the Houbolt finite-difference scheme to discretize the time derivatives.
